~ Events ~
Archery:
Archery will be held from 12 noon until 6pm, weather permitting.
The Archery Marshall will be Forester Eamon MacGowan of Sligo.
There will be three fire corridors with ranges from 20 to 40 yards. Archers are encouraged to bring their own novelty targets. No tournaments have been scheduled, but archers may feel free to coordinate one.
No Fighting or Fencing?
Anyone who wishes to fight or fence at this event are free to do so. A list will be made available. However, no coordinated fighting or fencing has been planned for this event.
The reason for this? The event steward planned the original TwinOaks Archery Revel after overhearing fighters at a Twelfth Night event sighing over being able to appreciate all the other delights of an event when not feeling compelled to fight. Fighting, while an admirable pastime and the most visible and unique part of our Society, is also time-consuming and somewhat stressful. The ‘revel’ part of the event title indicates that this is meant to be a relaxing event, and often the compulsion to enter all lists can cause undue anxiety.
Arts and Sciences:
Anyone wishing to teach a class please contact Devon Norwood of Hedgely Moor (castellan@post.com) before April 16th so that the class can be advertised on the website.
Children’s Activities:
The site boasts a fenced-in playground, equipped with all-new playground equipment.
A fishing derby is being proposed from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Jean leBref will teach the children to make simple fishing poles using bamboo rods, string and line. Prizes will be awarded for largest, smallest and most fish caught.
A tent with quiet children’s activites will also be available.
Disclaimer: None of the children’s activities offered are a replacement for proper child supervision. We are not a babysitting service. Parents are expected to supervise their own children, or provide such supervision as needed.
Children found unsupervised who disrupt the flow of the event will be returned to their parents/guardians, who will then be asked to leave the site.
Merchanting:
As the only tables we have to provide are picnic tables, we recommend that merchants bring their own tables. As we have a shortage of interior space, merchants are asked to bring shelters in case of rain, or to protect from the sun.
The site is open to the public, so merchants have a chance to sell to the public as well.
The Merchant Coordinator is Caitlyn Morand ( cmckee@cogeco.ca ). Her phone # is 519-945-6227.
Lunch Tavern:
A lunch tavern should be available between 11am and 2pm, run by Lady Catriona Etain Norwood. Menu: pulled pork sandwiches, ratatouille, hot dogs, and strawberry shortcake. Water and pop will also be for sale.
Feast:
The cook for the feast is Rhianna DuBois, who has prepared feasts for many TwinOaks and Shire events in the past. Her philosophy is ‘not necessarily good period food, but good food period’, though she does strive for medieval verisimilitude with her menus.
She is also sensitive to those with special dining needs. There will be gluten-free choices available for those who require it. All those with allergies or questions on the menu should send all queries to ‘angelhorsecharlie@yahoo.ca‘ or ‘cmarchetti@cogeco.ca’
Bonfire and Bardic Circle
A bonfire is a tradition at House TwinOaks events, and thus it will be held at the TOAR, as usual. Marshmallows, dogs and roasting sticks may or may not be provided; we advise attendees to plan ahead.
Bring seating and bring cloaks/blankets/coats. Despite the fire it is likely to be cold, as the site is on the water.
Overnight Camping:
For those wishing to sleep on-site, space to pitch tents is available: also we will have pavilions already pitched that can be occupied.
Warning: As the site is on the water, it is likely to be cold at night. Take appropriate precautions.
Nearby is the Lighthouse Inn – which sadly is not actually an inn, and has no accomodations. So sorry for any inconvenience.
